Exploring Thassos

Thasso's Culture

Thassos passed to the Greeks after 1902, during the Balcan wars, while in 1941, the Bulgarians marched on the island as well. In the frame of all these conquests and claims, Thassos added to its natural beauty a cultural prestige – patchwork of influences of Greek and foreign rulers. Samples of the long history of the island, dominate in the archaeological museum, in several folklore museums that were erected with care at picturesque villages, while contemporary art is represented by various artists, such as the sculptor Polygnotos Vagis, the museum in Potamia, which is dedicated to him, but also in scattered works of art on the island of Kostas Lovulos and of other artists.
