Palataki

Palataki (little palace) was built in 1903 by the German company Speidel which was exploiting the minerals of the area. This building used to be their headquarters and hosted their offices. A few meters back of Palataki you can see the old area of Metalleia where the remains of the cooper workshops still stand.

The minerals used to travel by wagons on rails from the excavation points to those workshops. Then the workers used to separate the cooper and other precious minerals from the dirt, and load the precious cargo into ships. You can still see the remains of the loading platform at the side of the beach. Many people from Kastro, started to work there and the company built the first houses in the area to host its workers.

Over the years, and the eradicate of the piracy, even more people moved in the area. This is how the village of Limenaria founded. Nowadays, Palataki is abandoned, and dominates the hill of Limenaria over the port.
